Burnaby occupies 98.60 square kilometres and is located at the geographical centre of the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Situated between the City of Vancouver on the west and Port Moody, Coquitlam and New Westminster on the east, the City is further bounded by the Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River on the North and South respectively.
The latest demographic information for Burnaby, comes from the results of the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada. According to the 2021 Census, Burnaby has a population of approximately 255,218 people.
In terms of ethnic background, the primary groups include Chinese (40.9%), Caucasian (26.0%), South Asian (14.3%), Filipino (6.3%) and Korean (3.9%).
In terms of language, the most commonly spoken languages in Burnaby is English (52.7%) followed by Chinese (34.9%), Punjabi (4.4%), Tagalog (2.7%) and Korean (1.7%).

The Burnaby School District (School District 41) administers 41 elementary schools and 8 secondary schools. The District also offers numerous specialized programs including Community & Continuing Education, International Education, French Immersion, Burnaby Online, Soccer Academy, Hockey Academy and Learning Through the Arts. Served by more than 4,000 staff, Burnaby School District enrolls almost 24,000 students (K-12) and provides programs and services to more than 16,000 adult learners.
